 JUST the FACTS
Where do you get the money for your programs?
Tax-deductible donations from individuals, corporations and foundations, volunteers raise funds through benefits. Foundation support includes The California Endowment, The Weingart Foundation, Bank of America, and Pacific Life. We do use any government tax money. Counselors donate their services. Limited paid staff keeps costs down. No family is turned away.
Why do you help parents that abuse their children?
In most cases, returning children to their own safer homes and their own parents with improved parenting skills, volunteer support and resources is what works and what is in the best interest of children & what they want.
How does your program prevent child abuse?
Our program believes parents do not want to hurt their children. We believe in strengthening the family of origin. Dr. Henry Kempe, author of The Battered Child Syndrome learned volunteer-provided family services that educate and reduce stress, stop serious child abuse injuries and thousands of child abuse deaths a year.
How long does it take to stop abusive parenting?
The Parent?Help USA program provides and recommends fifty-one weeks of parenting instruction classes a year. Individual and couples counseling or child therapy is provided as needed. Parents voluntarily participate in classes long after court requirements have been met.
What can I do to help abused children?
Make a donation and volunteer to help a family or at the Parent?Help Center. 3 hours a week can help parents avoid violence. There are many volunteer opportunities in fundraising, leadership, public speaking and management. Support the Parent?Help line; parents need a place to call.
