Volunteer Opportunities
The
most important contribution you can make is to the parents of
our children - understand and educate them! Help them learn ways
to discipline children without hitting or harming and to handle
stress and resolve conflicts without violence. No parent wants
to abuse their child.
We
think of our Volunteers In Prevention as our VIP's (Very Important
People). They make all services and programs possible by donating
thousands of volunteer hours per year. All operations are supported
by private donations, corporate/foundation grants, benefits and
special events throughout the year organized by volunteers.
If
you are interested in volunteering or interning, we welcome the
opportunity to show you what you can do.
Our
volunteer opportunities fall into five major categories:
1)
Parenting Support Groups - Provide free child care, parent-to-parent
support and individual counseling with licensed professionals.
2)
C.A.R.E. - Child Abuse Resistance Education - Provides
nonviolence parenting classes, videos and a reference library.
Parents are sent to these classes by courts after a child abuse
report.
3)
Parent Aide - Our Home Visitor program works with the parents
of at risk infants and children. Parent Help U.S.A. also serves
"Motel Children" with church volunteers, youth service
clubs and high school students involved with "Youth Against
Violence," a Parent Help U.S.A. educational program
of adult and peer-to-peer counseling.
4)Center
Staff Support - Special events planning, public speaking,
marketing, volunteer recruitment, training and clerical help.
5)
Board of Directors - Leadership management and hands-on
participation in fundraising opportunities, child advocacy and
public speaking.
